MAN IS THE MASTER OF HIS FATE

Swami Vivekanand said “Stand up, be bold, be strong. Take the whole responsibility on your own shoulders and know that all the strength you want is within yourselves. You are the creator, the master of your own destiny”.

Really, these lines are sufficient to motivate a man who is feeling low, the one who has just faced a great defeat, who has just tasted the sour taste of failure.

These lines tell him that nothing is there which is beyond the limits of a man. A true man can shape his destiny the way he desires, moves the mighty mountains, stops the current of brimming river and transforms the impossible into possible.

But now the questions are:

  • Who is that true man?
  • What are the requisite qualities for being a true man?
  • Is he born so or can he be formed?

A true man is one who stands apart from the crowd, has calmness written on his face, faces every challenge with a smile, has an aura of his own, casts a charm on others with his pleasing personality and sincerity, whose presence instils belief and faith in others. In a nutshell, he is the apple of everyone’s eyes.

The essential qualities for being a true man are self confidence and never-say-die-spirit. According to Cape Ruth, “It is hard to beat a person who never gives up”. Mahatma Gandhi opines “If a man has the belief that he can do it, he will surely acquire the capacity to do it, even if he may not have it at the beginning”.

Courage, common sense, indomitable will, empathy, love for humanity and above all, hard work are also some of the other ornaments of such a man. Really, these ingredients help him achieve his goal. With his positive attitude, hardwork and devotion, he can make his destiny and leaves his imprints on the millions, billions, perhaps humanity at large and of course inspires others to follow the suit. He is just like that fisherman who knows that sea is rough and dangerous & the storm is terrible but he never finds these dangers, sufficient reasons for remaining ashore.

For him, the first rule is to keep an untroubled spirit & the second is to look things in the face and know them for what they are. He has infinite energy, courage, zeal and patience and then only he achieves great heights.

I believe that each and every human being has these qualities inbuilt in his body system since birth, still some are able to change their luck and others cannot. They fail to recognize their potential and surrender themselves to the circumstances and blame their Gods and stars for their ill luck.

History is full of examples of the great souls who faced all the odd situations, sarcasms, jibes or oppositions but kept on following their hearts and were able to make their destiny. They broke the shackles of long practised traditions & overcame the hurdles which came into their way and became immortal. Swami Vivekanand, Subhash Chandra Bose, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, etc. are a few names of such persons.

In a nutshell, it is a man’s own efforts that determine his destiny by virtue of his strength. He can determine his own destiny by his thoughts. So, be the “Master of your destiny”.
